Description:

Anonymous, possibly Hung Viet Nguyen (Vietnamese, b. 1957). "Imperial Pond" colored woodblock print on paper, n.d. Number 2 of 200. Hand-signed, titled, and numbered beneath image. "Imperial Pond" is a luminous and richly textured woodblock print that captures the tranquil elegance of a koi pond in full bloom. At the center of the composition, two brilliantly detailed goldfish glide gracefully through an expanse of deep, undulating blue water. Their vibrant orange scales and sweeping fins are rendered with a hypnotic patterning that contrasts beautifully against the swirling aquatic backdrop. Surrounding them, broad lily pads float serenely on the surface, painted in vivid shades of green with accents of yellow and ochre. A single lotus bloom, rendered in soft pink hues, unfurls delicately in the lower left corner, suggesting themes of purity, transformation, and natural harmony. Size of etching: 23.75" W x 17.75" H (60.3 cm x 45.1 cm); of frame: 36.75" W x 30.75" H (93.3 cm x 78.1 cm)

This work blends traditional Eastern aesthetics with a contemporary painterly sensibility, possibly reflecting the hand of Vietnamese artist Hung Viet Nguyen. Known for his intricately layered compositions and meditative style, Nguyen often draws on ancient motifs and natural elements to explore spiritual balance and philosophical depth. Imperial Pond invites contemplation, offering a symbolic landscape where nature and beauty coexist in rhythmic harmony. Its limited edition status and masterful execution make it a standout piece in any modern or traditional collection.

About the artist: Artist Hung Viet Nguyen was born in Vietnam in 1957. He studied Biology at Science University in Saigon, Vietnam, then transitioned to working as an illustrator, graphic artist and designer since settlement in the U.S. in 1982. He developed his artistry skills independently, studying many traditional Eastern and Western forms, media and techniques. Nguyen's complex, labor intensive investigations of oil paint reveal a methodical mastery of texture. While portions of Nguyen s work suggest the influence of many traditional art forms including woodblock prints, Oriental scroll paintings, ceramic art, mosaic, and stained glass, his ultimate expression asserts a contemporary pedigree.

Nguyen has been represented and his paintings have been exhibited at art fairs: Spring/Break Art Show (2020), Market Art + Design Hamptons New York (2018, 2017), Art Market San Francisco (2017), Art Context Miami (2018), Art Context New York (2017, 2016), Palm Beach Art Miami (2023, 2016), Los Angeles Art Show, Modern + Contemporary (2023, 2022, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016), Art Palm Springs (2019, 2018, 2017, 2016), Fabrik Expo Los Angeles (2016), Spectrum Miami Art Show (2017, 2015), Art Silicon-San Francisco (2015), Houston Fine Art Fair (2015), Art San Diego (2018, 2017, 2016, 2015), WestEdge Design Fair-Santa Monica (2015).
