Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Ica Valley, Paracas culture, ca. 800 to 300 BCE. A hand-built pottery bowl with a flared / carinated base, low, circular rim, and around the exterior is a band of incised geometric motifs. The ground is slipped in black and the motifs are highlighted in red, yellow, green, and blue. The vessel was created using the coil, paddle and anvil technique, the pigments are usually applied after firing the piece which helped preserved their vibrancy for over 2000 years! Size: 6" Diameter x 2" H (15.2 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Jim Carroll collection, Maryland, USA, excavated or purchased in Peru in the 1960s, thence by descent to present owners
