Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Ica culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A large terracotta vessel with a rounded base, slight concave walls, a deep interior cavity, and a thin flared rim. The bowl displays a highly-burnished surface with a decorative program of linear, stepped, and striped designs along the exterior register in hues of creamy yellow, orange-red, and black. An interior register of similar orange-red pigment adorns the rim, though the majority of the interior cavity is coated in a lustrous brown pigment. A wonderful and skillfully-crafted example! Size: 6" W x 4" H (15.2 cm x 10.2 cm).
