Description:

Central Europe, Germany, ca. 17th century CE. An ornate iron dagger with a double-edge and a prominent midrib running down the length of one side, ending at a rectangular ricasso. The cross guard boasts a central engraved heart motif and short arms that extend from both sides with diamond-shaped tubular knobs. A spiraling wooden inlay and a twisting wire covers the length of the hilt, ending at the circular pommel. Long daggers were popular sidearms and the decorative pieces, such as this handsome blade, were proud accessories worn by elite civilians for duels and protection. Size: 17.5" L (44.4 cm)
