Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1470 CE - 1520 CE. This impressive pottery vessel features a nicely burnished blackware finish on an aryballos form, with pointed bottom and side loop handles. Beyond this attractive form, the piece is adorned with a pair of panels on each side, two depicting a large bird in profile with its beak arching up toward the sky, two others featuring a momma bird feeding her chick. The aryballos form was created by the Inca culture; however, the styling of this vessel shows Chimu influence. So this vessel was most likely created by a Chimu artisan who had been captured by the Inca. A beautiful piece with a rich history!  Size: 7"W x 7"H (17.78 W x 19.69 H cm) Provenance: Ex-Powell Collection, White City, Oregon, acquired before 1964 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
