Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1000 to 1425 CE. A fine, handbuilt pottery vessel depicting the head of a coquero, his visage presenting a protruding coca filled right cheek, large boldly delineated ovoid eyes, a projecting (nearly in the round) nose, nasolabial folds surrounding a toothy grimace, pronounced ears adorned with round earspools, and an incised, bas relief plaited coiffure. This visage is supported by a short base (the neck of the bust) and presents a cylindrical neck atop with a flared rim. Size: 6.875" W x 9" H (17.5 cm x 22.9 cm)
