Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Inca hinterlands (Chucu), ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A hand-carved stone plaque with rough peripheries and flat faces. The obverse side displays a wondrous, abstract scene of three standing humans and four alpacas in hues of crimson, sunflower, sage, and pink. The brown ground upon which the painted decorations are presented is adorned with red and yellow stippling. Size: 5.375" W x 5.625" H (13.7 cm x 14.3 cm).
