Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1470 to 1532 CE. A fine pair of cast-copper axe heads with tactile remains of their original textile handle wrappings. First is a stocky axe head with a gently flared blade edge and a tapered body that culminates in a dense butt. The larger axe has a relatively thin profile, perhaps for ceremonial use, with a rectangular handle and a semicircular blade protruding from the bottom. The handle wraps of the thicker tool exhibit a fibrous form, and those on the larger tool are tightly braided into a thick panel. Lucite display stands for photography purposes only. Size of largest: 3.625" W x 6.1" H (9.2 cm x 15.5 cm)
