Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Incan Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A beautiful cast-copper mace head of a six-pointed star form made to be attached to a solid shaft used to bludgeon one's adversaries, or perhaps as a decorative helmet ornament to highlight the warrior's ferocity. In addition to being an extremely lethal weapon designed for destruction, the star form attests to the ancients' reverence for the celestial realm. An example like this one was probably a symbol of authority rather than an instrument of war. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 4.125" H (10.5 cm); 5.125" H (13 cm) on included custom stand.

For a similarly-formed example cast from silver, please see The Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number 1987.394.234: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/315294

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private H. J. Westermann collection, Germany
