Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A beautiful textile coca bag comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of crimson, cream, burgundy, and blue. The central decorative column of the trapezoidal bag displays broad panels of triangular, wave-form, and linear motifs, with solid dark-red spacer columns on either side, and a pair of lateral columns filled with abstract cyclopean creatures bearing claw-form hands. Dangling from the lower periphery are five slender tassels with lengthy crimson-hued fringe and top knots decorated with red, blue, and white S-form motifs. Mounted on a thick fabric backing on a wooden frame. Size (bag w/ tassels): 7.5" W x 16.5" H (19 cm x 41.9 cm); size (frame): 9.75" W x 18" H (24.8 cm x 45.7 cm).
