Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A lovely textile coca cloth known as a "tari," composed of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of crimson, burgundy, forest-green, and citrine. The rectangular panel displays three columns of white thread that create large X-shaped panels with serpentine forms in the center as well as abstract zoomorphic figure and spiraling motifs along both sides. Wide columns of vivid colors surround the mysterious motifs, and a frilled tassel projects from each corner. Mounted on a fabric display panel. Size (textile): 15" W x 15.75" H (38.1 cm x 40 cm); size (display fabric): 28.75" W x 25" H (73 cm x 63.5 cm).
