Description:

Pre-Columbian, from ancient Peru, Inca, ca. 1200 - 1500 CE This endearing canopa assumes the form of a camelid native to Peru. Carved from wood and finely burnished to create the impression of hard stone or ceramic, the canopa contains a central hole in its back that would have been filled with coca leaves and animal tallow and ultimately thrown into the fields as an offering to the mother god (Pacchamama) in hopes of bringing about a healthy breeding season and harvest. 2-1/4"T x 2-1/2"L
