Description:

Central Asia, Iran to Northwestern India, Indo-Persian / Mughal culture, ca. 15th to 18th century CE. A formidable iron helmet, constructed from eight vertically arranged panels joined together by ring loops and reinforced with iron bands and rivets. The domed form is crowned with a finial knob, while the front features a curved nasal guard with an upward hook, both surfaces etched with calligraphic script, likely Qur'anic or poetic inscriptions invoking divine protection or valor. Along the rim, remnants of the original chainmail fringe remain in situ, offering rare insight into its complete defensive function. The eight vertical panels likely reference the symbolic importance of the number eight in Islamic cosmology, merging physical protection with spiritual fortification. Size: 9" Diameter x 12" H (22.9 cm x 30.5 cm); 15" H (38.1 cm) on included custom stand.
