Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Veracruz culture, also known as Totonac (Totonaca), Remojadas, ca. 300 to 600 CE. An incredible statuette of a seated shaman, dressed in magnificently constructed clothing: a feathered cape, spread wide from his shoulders, a huge headdress with two curved projections rising from it and a double layer of feathers around the crown of the head; two massive spool earrings that project outward from the face further than the visor of the headdress; a striped poncho/cape above a tunic; and a giant spool-shaped pectoral. The face has a remarkable degree of realism, a hallmark of some Veracruz sculpture, and features painted including lifelike eyes. Size: 5" W x 5.45" H (12.7 cm x 13.8 cm)
