Description:

First Nations, Northern Canada, Inuit, mid to late 20th century CE. A shallow bowl carved from soapstone, likely intended as a traditional oil lamp vessel known as a qulliq. The form is smooth and organic, with a whale in low relief carved into the front side. The underside is inscribed in Inuktitut syllabics - possibly a disc number - and includes the name "Anne Pangnark" in English script alongside the number "77," likely referencing the year 1977. While no direct connection is confirmed between Anne Pangnark and the renowned Inuit sculptor John Pangnark (1920-1980), the shared surname and regional ties suggest a possible familial relationship worth further exploration. Size: 2.5" L x 4.5" W x 1.25" H (6.4 cm x 11.4 cm x 3.2 cm)
