Description:

Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Inuit / Yupik /Aleut, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A group of three traditional hand tools likely used for fine carving, woodworking, and ivory or bone incising, each crafted from iron, wood, bone, or antler. The first is a curved-blade carving knife, repurposed from a farrier's rasp file, bent, sharpened, and mounted into a wooden handle, accompanied by a fitted leather sheath. The second is a T-handled incising tool or engraving awl, composed of an iron shaft with a U-shaped working tip embedded into an antler or bone grip, the top surface of which bears etched linear designs. The final piece is a small precision carving knife, with an iron blade secured into a hand-whittled wooden handle, wrapped with fiber cord both for grip reinforcement and to prevent slippage during delicate work. Size of curved knife: 8.5" L x 1" W (21.6 cm x 2.5 cm)
