Description:

Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Inuit / Yupik, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A pair of Inuit carvings, each made from bone and walrus ivory. The first is a long awl or pick, featuring a brass suspension loop at the top for attachment to a belt or garment, and incised with concentric circle motifs. The second is an ingenious cigarette or match case composed of flat walrus ivory panels, each engraved with linear and circular patterns. The panels are sewn together with sinew, and the lid is articulated, allowing it to open and close. Size of case: 2.5" L x 1" W x 3" H (6.4 cm x 2.5 cm x 7.6 cm)
