Description:

Near East, Holy Land / Israel, Iron Age II, ca. 7th to 6th century BCE. A group of three hand-formed ceramic objects, including a pair of pottery oil lamps and a pyramidal censer or lantern cover. Each of the two lamps features a broad, shallow bowl with a raised central ridge and a pinched spout - classic traits of Iron Age shell-type oil lamps, often found in domestic and funerary settings. The larger pyramidal object is hollow with an open base and arched openings on two sides, flanked by large circular lugs or handles. Likely used as a censer or cover for a lamp, brazier, or incense burner, it may have functioned as a protective housing for a flame or aromatic offering. Despite its enigmatic form, this piece evokes the architectural sensibilities of ancient ritual furnishings. All are presented in buff terracotta with soft surface weathering from age and burial. Size of largest: 5.5" L x 5.5" W x 8.25" H (14 cm x 14 cm x 21 cm)
