Description:

Jack Duganne (American, 1942-2000). Mixed-Media Dimensional Collage, 1984. Signed and dated at lower right. A beautiful dimensional landscape by American artist Jack Duganne. The view was most likely inspired by the Santa Monica coastline, one of the artist's favorite places. All is skillfully delineated with hand cut/torn and layered serigraphs, various layers presenting with expressive textures that suggest they were embellished with pastel or paint. The sublime composition dazzles in shades of aqua, cornflower blue, gold, sage green, umber, sienna, and slate grey. A unique and impressively large Post-Modernist dimensional landscape by the late Jack Duganne that stands apart from his usual serigraphs in that it was assembled as a layered collage and embellished with hand-painted textural patterns. Size (artwork): 39.5" L x 56" W (100.3 cm x 142.2 cm) Size (frame): 47.625" L x 67.7" W (121 cm x 172 cm)

About the artist: Jack Duganne was an artist best known for his technical innovations as a printmaker. He taught at Santa Monica College, Otis College of Art and Design, and UCLA Extension. According to his obituary, "A Master Printer, he enabled many artists to realize their vision in both analog and digital print media. As founding director of Workshop, i.e., an artist collective and printing studio on Main Street in Santa Monica for over 47 years, he enabled an entire generation of artists to develop their skills and enjoy the camaraderie of their peers. It was a uniquely long-lived incubator for creative artists at many stages of their careers. This safe haven, with its community, resources and the stimulation of creative work going on all around, propelled ambitions, creative product and had an incalculably major impact on the arts of Los Angeles and beyond. His work celebrated the light and continuum of the Santa Monica coastline, which he enjoyed traversing on one of his pinwheel decorated trikes." (Los Angeles Times website)
