Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fascinating pottery vessel boasting anthropomorphic features and elaborately painted orange-on-cream decoration of abstract scrolling and geometric designs. The corseted body of the vessel presents applied, human characteristics on its lower half, comprised of ovoid eyes, a protruding nose, an open mouth, and a pair of short arms with petite hands. This impressive effigy was likely a funerary vessel used for storing food, drink, or even offerings for the deceased to take to the afterlife. Size: 5.1" Diameter x 6.8" H (13 cm x 17.3 cm)
