Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A handbuilt terracotta figural vessel depicting a most amusing lad with a characteristically elongated head presenting a quixotic visage comprised of coffee bean shaped eyes, a pronounced nose, large pierced ears, and a toothy grin. He sits with an ample, pleasantly plump body and attenuated limbs. A sweet piece with wonderful burnishing marks as well. Size: 6.5" W x 11" H (16.5 cm x 27.9 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to left ear, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Abrasions and chipping to limbs, body, head, and original pigment, with light encrustations, and one petite fissure on rim. Nice earthen deposits and craquelure to pigment throughout.
