Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An impressively large and finely modeled, Jalisco female figure, nude except for her cap-like headdress, kneeling with legs folded beneath her body, arms slightly raised at sides. Her characteristically elongated head presents expressive facial features such as large almond-shaped eyes, arched brows, an aquiline nose, perky ears, and an open mouth revealing incised teeth. Her body presents a wide torso with perky breasts, a protruding perhaps pregnant belly, ample hips and buttocks accentuated by the sculptor to indicate her fertility, and hands with delineated fingers and nailbeds. In addition, intriguing raised, circular pellets embellish her shoulders. A wonderful example from the ancients of West Mexico! Size: 13.5" W x 13.5" H (34.3 cm x 34.3 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private T. Misenhimer (a Hollywood film producer) collection, California, USA
