Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A pottery seated female figure from the shaft tomb tradition, rendered with distinctively stylized features and expressive posture. The figure sits cross-legged, holding a shallow bowl in one hand while the other is raised to her head in a gesture that may evoke ritual or introspective significance. She wears large earspools, a tall flared headdress, and exhibits the classic elongated "sheep" face and prominent nose. The surface is highly burnished and slipped in red with remains of white highlights. Such figures were often placed in shaft tombs as symbolic companions, representing ancestors, ritual participants, or fertility figures. Size: 5.5" W x 10" H (14 cm x 25.4 cm)
