Description:

Pre-Columbian , Ecuador, Jama Coaque, ca. 500 CE. The Jama Coaque culture of the Pacific coast of Ecuador is known for its pottery, especially highly adorned, mold-made human figures of elite status such as this example. This finely rendered figure depicts a standing female wearing a grand headdress decorated with incised diagonal striations and added green pigment, ear and nose ornaments, and a long skirt or tunic-like garment. The bands of intricately delineated motifs covering her arms may depict decorative scarring or tattooing that are further adorned with blue-green, yellow, and white pigments. Size: 8" W x 15.75" H (20.3 cm x 40 cm)
