Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque culture, ca. 500 CE. A fascinating musical instrument and serving ladle, with a broad, shallow bowl, and a long handle in the form of a foot wearing three fringed decorations, two at the knee and one at the ankle. Slits in the sides allow sound to escape from the body, creating a deep, fulsome rattling sound that is still pleasing to the ear all these centuries later!
