Description:

**Originally Listed At $250**

East Asia, Japan, Showa era, ca. mid-20th century CE. A dazzling cloisonne and ginbari copper pitcher with a flaring body, scalloped base, arched handle, and spout, all coated in glossy black enamel. The body is adorned with a vibrant, sinuous dragon depicted in brilliant hues, its scales rendered in shimmering foils protected by translucent enamel, creating a radiant, iridescent effect. This technique, sometimes referred to as foil-inlay enamel or ginbari, gives the impression of cloisonne work, though it lacks true wire cloisons. It was popular in Japanese and Chinese decorative arts during the mid-20th century. True cloisonne with copper wires forms the floral rosettes and geometric borders around the spout, shoulder, and undulating base, adding a subdued balance to the foil dragon. A visually rich example of enamelware, blending traditional iconography with innovative techniques. Size: 4.75" L x 5.6" H (12.1 cm x 14.2 cm)
