Description:

East Asia, Japan, Meiji to Showa Period, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A striking Japanese sterling silver vase of baluster form, expertly decorated in high-relief repousse and cold chiseling with blossoming peony and cherry branches extending across the body. The flowers are crisply detailed, with layered petals and buds in various stages of bloom, enhancing the naturalistic dynamism of the composition. The reflective surface provides a dramatic backdrop for the subtly oxidized blossoms and patinated leaves, creating a depth of contrast and texture. A small applied chrysanthemum medallion, symbol of the imperial family, adorns the neck. The base is incised with the artist's signature in kanji script. This vase tested at 99% silver in multiple areas, with the larger repousse leaves registering at 97% silver due to the addition of a contrasting copper tint to emphasize their tonal variation. Size: 6" W x 13.75" H (15.2 cm x 34.9 cm); silver quality: 97% to 99%; weight: 2177.24
