Description:

John Pritchard (American, XX-XXI). Acrylic sculpture, n.d. A fascinating sculpture by John Pritchard that combines the aesthetic allure of geometry and color with the transparent wonder of high quality acrylic. Acrylic only came to be used as an art medium during the 20th century after DuPont Company chemists patented the formula in 1937. Sculptors such as Naum Gabo appreciated its high refractive index and mesmerizing optical properties. With this piece, John Pritchard creates an illusion of extending depth and shifting visual planes as our eyes travel along and through the luminous work. Each of the four semi-circular sections is comprised of two pieces of acrylic and embellished with geometrical motifs in dazzling hues of cobalt, teal, and white. A colorless piece stands between the two central semi-circular forms, and all are joined via bolts enveloped in white fittings. A fascinating piece by John Pritchard. Size: 5" deep x 15.5" W x 15.5" H (12.7 cm x 39.4 cm x 39.4 cm)
