Julia Corfe (British, b. 1953). "Roof Tops" etching and aquatint on paper, 1975. Edition number 7 of 25. Hand-signed, dated, titled, and numbered beneath plate. A delicate yet atmospheric early print by British artist Julia Corfe, "Roof Tops" captures the layered geometry of brick and slate against the shifting presence of trees silhouetted in the background. Rendered in earthy browns and muted greens, the composition conveys both architectural solidity and the ephemeral textures of nature, a dialogue that has remained central to Corfe's artistic practice. Trained at Northampton and Kingston upon Thames Colleges of Art, Corfe began her career as a printmaker before moving more fully into landscape painting. This work, created in 1975, reflects that formative period, when she was exploring the possibilities of etching and aquatint to merge drawing, tonal depth, and painterly qualities. Size of etching: 14" W x 13" H (35.6 cm x 33 cm); of frame: 22.5" W x 21.75" H (57.2 cm x 55.2 cm)

About the artist: "Julia Corfe studied at Northampton and Kingston upon Thames Colleges of Art. After graduating she worked as a printmaker, but has gradually become more focused on landscape painting. She has painted in Swaledale since the 1980’s, but since 2000 she has had a permanent base high in the Pennines overlooking Swaledale. She has also worked extensively in Cornwall and, more recently Pembrokeshire, as well as other dramatic landscapes such as Norway and Iceland (the subject of a monotype collection shown at the 2018 Swaledale Festival). She has exhibited at The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and The Royal Academy Summer Show and has work in public and private collections around the U.K." (source: artist's website)
