Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ayutthaya period, ca. 14th to 15th century CE. A nearly life-sized carved sandstone head of the Buddha, exemplifying the refined artistry of early Ayutthaya sculpture. The visage exudes serenity, with delicately arched brows above gently downcast eyes, a subtly smiling mouth, and a well-defined nose - each feature harmoniously composed to evoke inner tranquility. The head is adorned with a tightly textured coiffure surmounted by a rounded ushnisha, symbolizing spiritual wisdom, and flanked by elongated lobed ears, signifying enlightened perception. Mounted on a custom stand for modern presentation, this elegant sculpture embodies the grace and spiritual depth of Thai Buddhist tradition. Size: 6" W x 8.5" H (15.2 cm x 21.6 cm); 13" H (33 cm) on included stand.
