Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Borneo, Dayak Culture, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A commanding, large-scale wooden mask carved with bold planes and deeply recessed features that evoke both human and spirit forms central to Iban ritual life. The surface bears remnants of dark patina and weathering, suggestive of long ceremonial use and age exposure in the humid equatorial climate. Its formidable scale and stark expression convey the presence of ancestral power - perhaps an object intended to both protect and intimidate - now presented on a custom stand. Size: 15.5" L x 11" W (39.4 cm x 27.9 cm); 23" H (58.4 cm) on included custom stand.
