Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. An egg-shaped polychrome pottery bottle with a large ovoid, bulbous, round-bottomed body, a short convex neck, with a pair of looped strap handles joining neck to shoulder, and an impressive skillfully painted stylized geometric program in chocolate brown and russet red on a cream ground. A lovely example, replete with a mesmerizing decorative program and special meaning as the egg is a symbol of renewal. Size: 7.5" in diameter x 8.625" H (19 cm x 21.9 cm)
