Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 CE. A fine textile weaver's basket, composed of tightly-woven reeds in a rectangular form, containing a myriad of useful implements. The weaving tools include two small pottery vessels; a ball of tan cotton thread; two carved stones, one resembling a seashell, and the other a bean pod; six wooden needles with attached pottery spindle whorls; eight wooden needles with no spindle whorls; two loose spindle whorls; a woven textile bag with blue and orange motifs; a woven netted sack; and a handful of small pottery fragments. Size (basket): 5.75" L x 13.5" W x 3" H (14.6 cm x 34.3 cm x 7.6 cm).
