Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Quimbaya, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A wonderful handbuilt earthenware effigy vessel presenting an anthropomorphic form with an intriguing globular silhouette atop a concave pedestal foot with a rolled rim - the upper section featuring the humanoid head with applied coffee bean shaped eyes, a protruding perforated nose, closed coffee bean shaped lips, and cup shaped ears. The face is further embellished with incised zigzag and dotted motifs, perhaps to represent scarification or tattoos. Across the shoulder of the lower section is a sinuous filet; the central section is incised to represent a beaded necklace or collar, and the ends are incised to look like fingered hands with dotted bracelets adorning the wrists. Size: 9.625" W x 9.625" H (24.4 cm x 24.4 cm)
