Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste-Nicoya, ca. 1 to 500 CE. One of the most beautiful examples of ancient stone-work one can find! Carved translucent gray-green jade in the form of a zoomorphic celt axe god. Long thin blade, legs perched like an avian with sharpened avian "chin" with long extended tongue, deep drilled eyes, furled brows and decorated headdress. Drilled on lower blade and behind eyes for suspension with smoothed central ridge on reverse. Size: 2.25" W x 6.25" H (5.7 cm x 15.9 cm)
