Description:

Northern Europe, Denmark, Neolithic period, ca. 3900 to 1700 BCE. Large and quite exceptional flint dagger of meticulously knapped stone, one in hues of dark gray, chocolate and medium brown. Bifacially knapped with slight curvature of the tip, which probably lends the argument this was used as a cutting tool rather than a stabbing tool. Lovely large example! Size: 12.625" L x 2.5" W (32.1 cm x 6.4 cm)

Provenance: private Illinois, USA collection; ex-private Chicago collection, Chicago, Illinois, USA, assembled 1990s; ex-Helios Gallery Antiquities, Wiltshire, United Kingdom; ex-M. Cronier Estate, Orleans, France, acquired 1950s to 1990s from several older collections
