Description:

Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A fabulous, mold-cast bronze statue of Osiris, the foremost Egyptian deity and god of the underworld, standing in mummiform with fused legs atop an integral rectangular plinth. He holds his signature flagellum and short-handled heka scepter (perhaps indicating Thebes as the figure's place of origin) in offset arms held atop the chest, and has broad shoulders which slope down to bent elbows. His serene countenance is defined by a broad nose with flared nostrils, thin lips, smooth cheeks, cupped ears, and thin brows. The head is topped with an Atef crown replete with ram horns, ostrich feathers, a pair of lateral uraei cobras, and a frontal uraeus cobra. Fine layers of green, brown, and russet patina envelop this wonderful example from ancient Egypt! Size: 3.2" W x 10.6" H (8.1 cm x 26.9 cm); 11.7" H (29.7 cm) on included custom stand.
