Egypt, Coptic culture, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A lovely textile fragment composed of tightly woven natural cotton fibers. The rectangular composition features twenty square panels that are created with thin parallel lines and filled with red-and-black diamonds, intersecting double-ended arrows, and a few have no motifs. Egyptian textiles from the Coptic period traditionally feature bold coloration and intricate iconography as we see in this example. Size (textile): 16.25" W x 23" H (41.3 cm x 58.4 cm); (display frame): 19" W x 25" H (48.3 cm x 63.5 cm)
