Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories (Mexico and Guatemala), ca. 600 to 900 CE. A grey, white, and pale yellow piece of chert/flint knapped into a ovoid disc form. Chert flints are made using percussion, striking them with other stones; the process required to get a fine point requires training and skill. Flints carved not as weapons, but as interesting designs, had sacrificial and ceremonial use for the Maya, and are often found as offerings in caches inside of stone monuments and other architectural features. Size: 4.9" W x 4.3" H (12.4 cm x 10.9 cm)
