Description:

Native American, Midwestern United States, Indiana, Archaic period, ca. 6000 to 3000 BCE. A large and finely worked chert blade, skillfully knapped on both sides to create an elongated leaf-shaped form. The piece measures an impressive 8" L (20.3 cm), making it a formidable tool or weapon. Its size and workmanship suggest it may be classified as a Cobbs type projectile point - a category of large bifaces characterized by their long, narrow bodies and rounded to slightly pointed bases, often associated with hunting and ceremonial use. However, attribution is not entirely certain, and the blade could represent a variation or related form within the broader Archaic-to-Woodland knapping traditions. Size: 8" L x 1.75" W (20.3 cm x 4.4 cm)

Provenance: Private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
