Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A large hollow pottery seated female figure rendered with a broad, square torso, seated atop a two-legged stool. Her body is decorated with resist-painted negative black lines and spirals across the surface, creating dynamic geometric patterns. She features a grooved genital line, nose piercing, and prominent ribbed ear ornaments. The head is modeled with narrow, slitted eyes and open mouth revealing prominent teeth, and a elogated head with a vent hole at the top. Such figures likely served ritual, funerary, or ancestor veneration purposes within Nayarit shaft tomb traditions, emphasizing fertility, status, and cultural identity.
