Description:

Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Guanajuato River Valley, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. This grand olla demonstrates the skill and artistry of the ancients of the Pre-Columbian world. Just imagine the painstaking technique involved in handbuilding a form of this size and gracefully sinuous contours! The shape was perfected and the surface smoothed using only the tools of nature, cucharas for shaping carved from tree gourds, weather worn stones for burnishing, knives made from whittled branches for rimming and scraping down walls, and of course the human hand for layering coil after coil and finessing the work as a whole. 7"T x 9 1/2"D at widest
