Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Alaska, Inuit peoples, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An interesting and abstract face carved on one side of a tall fragment of porous, light grey stone. The face bears a deep groove for the mouth, a bulbous nose, and a pair of intimidating eyes beneath dramatically slanted brows. The flat base enables the stone to stand upright and unassisted. Size: 5.375" W x 9.1" H (13.7 cm x 23.1 cm)

Provenance: private Colorado, USA collection, acquired around 1970; ex-Martin Boxer collection, acquired in the 1950s
