Description:

**Originally Listed At $150**

Native American, North America, Midwest, Late Archaic period, Titterington phase, Missouri or Illinois, ca. 2200 to 1800 BCE. A finely knapped Etley stone projectile point of imposing scale, its long, tapering blade and subtle shoulders announcing both utility and ceremony in equal measure. Fashioned from pale Burlington Chert, a material quarried naturally across west-central Illinois and southeast Iowa, the surface bears broad percussion scars that form a faint central ridge along each face, a hallmark of skilled soft-hammer or punch flaking. The slightly expanding stem, approaching a corner-notched silhouette, and the overall size suggest use as a hafted knife as much as a dart point. Such versatility aligns with Etley points recovered from Titterington phase contexts in the lower Illinois Valley, where mobile hunter-gatherer groups moved seasonally between riverine base camps and upland resource sites. Size: 1.6" W x 3.9" H (4.1 cm x 9.9 cm)

Etley points are among the most dramatic Late Archaic forms, frequently associated with burials and sometimes produced in deliberately oversized, non-utilitarian examples. This specimen fits squarely within that tradition, an object shaped for work, memory, and meaning, sharp enough for the hunt and dignified enough for the grave.
