Description:

Late Roman / early Byzantine period, ca. 4th to 8th century CE. A large and lovely cast-bronze bowl with a planar base, sloping walls, a deep interior cavity, a thin, everted rim, and a flattened ridge around the exterior. Areas of the original bronze are still visible - with much of the surface enveloped in thick layers of green and russet patina. Vessels like this example were used for everything from table serving to ceremonial offerings and much more. Size: 3.7" W x 12.625" H (9.4 cm x 32.1 cm).

  • Condition: Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, minor nicks to rim and base, with some light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits as well as great green and russet patina throughout.
