Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, ca. 600 to 950 CE. A large, polychrome terracotta plate, extensively decorated with an abstract turtle-like shell design in the tondon with smoke and fire symbols emanating toward the surrounding registers of stylized geometric motifs, all nicely painted in hues of red, black, and orange. Ritual kill hole at the center. Size: 12.75" W x 2.5" H (32.4 cm x 6.4 cm)
