Lot 106
United States (Union), 1857 to 1865 CE. This is a long iron socket bayonet, with clear locking ring and zig-zag slot (the technical term!). The scabbard is iron, leather, and small (copper?) rivets. This particular socket bayonet was used with .58 caliber rifle-muskets produced by the Springfield Armory and private contractors; it accompanied the M1855, M1861, and M1863, all used by the Union during the Civil War. 1.5 million of these were produced during the years listed. Size: 22.25" L (56.5 cm).

- Condition: Very slight rust/patina and wear to the leather scabbard; the piece still has moving parts! The blade is somewhat stuck in the scabbard, but blade is in excellent condition with almost no wear or patina.
