Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A lovely pair of amulets from ancient Egypt. First is a crouching zoomorphic creature of an abstract presentation that is carved from smooth, light gray stone. Incised striations denote the tucked legs, and a petite suspension hole is drilled laterally through the middle of the back. The largest piece is a mold-formed faience amulet depicting Anubis in a striding pose atop an integral plinth. The jackal-headed god of the dead stands in front of a dorsal pillar and is adorned with powdery blue glaze and areas of black pigment. Size of largest (Anubis): 1.4" H (3.6 cm)
