Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 664 BCE. A fine set of two mold-formed faience fragments from massive ushabti figures covered in green and turquoise-hued glaze. Each fragment shows a pair of striding legs atop an integral rectangular plinth and surrounded by animals, the larger of which with two feline figures next to the ankles, and the smaller with a single baboon resting atop the right foot. Each fragment boasts areas of black pigmentation denoting details to the legs or animals. The striding position suggests these figures perhaps depicted certain deities or pharaohs, or were merely effigies of the deceased. Size of largest (felines): 2.625" W x 5.4" H (6.7 cm x 13.7 cm).
