Pre-Columbian, north coast Peru, Moche, ca. 100 BCE to 400 CE. An opulent set of three jewelry pieces worn by elite and wealthy members of Moche society. First are a pair of labret plugs exhibiting cylindrical bodies and bulbous copper ornaments, with the more petite labret shaped from 67% gold (equivalent to 15K+), and the larger from 84% gold (equivalent to 20K+). The largest piece is a discoid pendant shaped from gilt copper with a pair of perforated suspension holes above 17 hemispherical repousse protrusions. Size of largest (disc): 1.8" W (4.6 cm); 3.875" H (9.8 cm) on included custom stand; quality of gold: 84% for larger labret and 67% for petite labret; total weight: 10 grams

  • Condition: Repair to frontal body of larger labret; smaller labret and disc are intact and very good. All pieces have minor abrasions and slight bending to overall form, with light encrustations. Great patina throughout.
